Stay Connected Amidst COVID-19 with Internet Essentials

The content of this blog post has been created by the Internet Essentials team with youth and families in mind.

As our country continues to struggle to manage the COVID-19 emergency, Comcast recognizes our company plays an important role in helping our customers stay connected – to their families, their workplaces, their schools, and the latest information about the virus – through the Internet.

We also know that for some Utahns who don’t have Internet service at home, this uncertain time is going to be even more difficult to manage. As schools and businesses close and families are encouraged, or even mandated, to stay home, Internet connectivity becomes even more important.

Fortunately, there is something we can do to help – we recently made two important announcements:

  • First, to help connect more low-income families during this difficult time, we’re offering any new Internet Essentials customer two months of complimentary Internet service, effective immediately. After the second month, customers are free to cancel their service, as the program never requires a contract, or remain in the program as paying customers at the heavily discounted Internet Essentials rate of $9.95 a month.
  • Second, for all new and existing Internet Essentials customers, we’re going to increase the speed of the program’s Internet service to 25 Mbps downstream and 3 Mbps upstream. That increase will go into effect for no additional fee and customers won’t have to do a thing. The speed will roll out over the next few days and will become the new base speed for the program going forward.

ABOUT INTERNET ESSENTIALS

The Internet Essentials program is available to all qualified low-income households in Comcast’s service area. It offers low-cost internet service for $9.95/month, the option to purchase a heavily subsidized computer for under $150, and access to digital skills training materials online, in print, and in-person. Since 2011, Internet Essentials has helped connect more than 8 million people, from 2 million low-income households to the Internet at home.

To sign up, applicants should go to www.internetessentials.com. The accessible website can be read in seven different languages and includes the option to video chat with customer service agents in ASL. There are also two dedicated phone numbers.
