Organization: YMCA of Northern Utah
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Kitchen Hand at the YMCA of Northern Utah maintains a supportive, positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals, promotes the potential of all youth, and provides a quality experience to both youth and their families. Responsibilities include development of a healthy weekly menu that caters to campers and staff with dietary restrictions such as allergies, vegetarian and vegans. Ensure food orders are sent in a timely manner, manage a kitchen hand and dishwasher and ensure the kitchen is up to the health departments code of compliance by maintaining a safe and clean work area   This is a seasonal position.




RESPONSIBILITIES OF A KITCHEN HAND:

Effectively achieves tasks and follows instruction of the kitchen manager.
Potentially help cook a healthy menu that caters to the needs of campers and staff when the Kitchen Manager needs assistance.
Ensures food orders are accurate and made in a timely manner.
Maintains the health departments requirements to ensure a safe and clean area.
Operate dishwasher to efficiently and effectively clean dish and kitchen ware between meals.
Role model Camp Mill Hollow's professional standards.
Follows all policies, procedures, and standards as established by the law or the Y (e.g., safety or emergency procedures, behavior guidance strategies, child abuse prevention policies); makes ADA accommodations where appropriate; maintains the program site, equipment, and required program records.

REQUIREMENTS TO BE A KITCHEN HAND:

Meets minimum age standards as established by state law and/or the Y.
High school diploma or equivalent; one year or more of college preferred.
Serve safe certificate
Knowledge of and experience in food service: inventory, food preparation, family-style serving, buffet serving, cleaning, and institutional kitchen equipment.
Knowledge of and experience in preparation of special dietary foods.
Knowledge of safely and properly using kitchen equipment.
Positive attitude and ability to build a cohesive team.
CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications required.
Previous experience working with children and staff in a camp setting preferred.
Previous experience working with diverse populations.
Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds.
