Organization: Boys and Girls Clubs of Utah County
The AmeriCorps STEM Specialist will spend 25 hours each week assisting with hands-on, informal STEM education and will also help with afterschool activities at the Boys & Girls Club in Provo, UT - 1060 E 150 N. The schedule is Mon-Friday 8:30AM-1:30PM.

As an AmeriCorps member, you will receive a $2,700 stipend for your service and in addition, a $1,311.11 education award (after you successfully complete your term).

$2,700 stipend + $1,311.11 education award = $4,011.11 total compensation

The $2,700 stipend will be split up and paid on a bi-weekly (every two weeks) basis during your term of service. The education award is made available following the successful completion of your term of service.

The education award is sent to your school of choice and can then be used to pay for education expenses (student loans, tuition, or other education-related expenses). Many schools will allow you to withdraw the funds as needed (similar to scholarship or other granted funds). You can apply for the education award immediately or wait for up to seven years following your term completion. While serving as an AmeriCorps member you are also eligible to have your student loans deferred (by request).

The individual selected for this position will serve as an AmeriCorps member. AmeriCorps is a national service opportunity, not just a regular job. This position requires:
A term of service from: ASAP to August 6th, 2021.
Schedule: 25/hrs a week (5 hours a day): 8:30AM-1:30PM - Monday through Friday

Detailed Responsibilities:
Work with small groups of students, instruct with experiential learning methods, lead STEM lessons during the time allocated each week, other classroom activities, clubs, and other duties as needed.

Assist in classrooms by providing support surrounding STEM curriculum for youth.
Maintain records of lesson plans, and track data for the number of students served
Complete weekly timesheets, and a monthly report
Attend monthly training meetings and any regular staff meetings at the service site
Conduct pre and post surveys of all youth served within the first and final months of service.
Participate in MLK Day of Service and National AmeriCorps Service Week
Assess and evaluate the effectiveness of programs and previously used curriculum.

Applicants must be at least 18 years of age, have a high school diploma or equivalent, be a United States citizen or permanent resident, and meet the requirements set by the Corporation for National and Community Service. Individuals selected for these positions must pass a background check. Preference will be given to individuals with educational or work experience related to science, technology, engineering, math, and/or education.
