Davis School District – Before and After School Tutor - Description
Antelope BASP is a before and after school program that helps 5 to 12-year-old students. The program provides hands-on learning experiences, homework and assignment help, and weekly STEM activities.
This is an AmeriCorps position. AmeriCorps is a unique service opportunity that is different from employment. AmeriCorps members sign an agreement to complete a term of service from Oct 5, 2020 – June 4, 2021, with a mandatory 2-hour orientation the evening of Oct 5, 2020 (date tentative). Members will serve a minimum of 675 hours during this time. AmeriCorps members will receive a living allowance of $6,075 during their term of service. This living allowance will be paid bi-weekly. Additionally, upon successful completion of a term of service, AmeriCorps members will receive an education award of $2,360.

Summary of Duties:
Perform the duties of an afterschool tutor for the Antelope Before and After School Program including:
● Ensure the safety and appropriate behavior of program students ages 5-12
● Assist instructors and program students
● Tutor program students in the subjects of Science, Technology, and Math in one-on-one or group settings
● Help students with homework and grade it
● Assist program participants during program time (M-F)
● Facilitate and teach during activity time for an hour weekly to a group of 20-25 student
● Work with BASP staff in planning and preparation of STEM learning activities
● Serve as an example to the BASP students in your charge
● Create and execute lesson plans that foster the development of a growth mindset, confidence in leadership, peer mentoring and educational achievement
● Attend weekly staff meetings
● Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
● Must be at least 18 years of age, have a high school diploma or equivalent, and be a United States citizen or permanent resident
● Mathematics, Science, Engineering, Education, Computer Science or other related majors preferred
● Must be available to work:
o Oct 5, 2020 (5:00 p.m. – 7 p.m.) Program Orientation (date tentative dependent on background check completion). Must be completed to begin service.
o Oct 5 - June 4, 2021 6:45 a.m.-8:45 a.m. (at least 2 days a week)
o Oct 5 – June 4, 2021
▪ Monday-Thursday: 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
● Most Tuesdays 2:30 p.m-6:00 p.m.
▪ Friday 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
● Prior experience working with elementary preferred
● At least two references from previous employers
Skills:
● Lead classroom discussions/activities
● Utilize effective verbal and written communication skills
● Maintain confidentiality of student records
● Ability to assess student work
● Capable of maintaining control of student groups
● Supervise middle school students (ages 5-12)
