Toxic Masculinity and the Socialization of Boys
Brent Hinsley, YCC Family Crisis Center
Some boys grow up with a certain set of unspoken rules and guidelines. Unfortunately, we can put boys in a narrow box when we expect them to behave a specific way, which makes it more difficult for them to express their feelings and fears. This type of socialization of boys can become toxic when it expresses itself through aggressive young men, especially in the way they may treat women and other men. Together, we'll define and discuss toxic masculinity, as well as how helping young boys become more balanced in their masculinity can positively impact our society.
