Organization: Utah Afterschool Network
POSITION SUMMARY
Reporting to the UAN Board of Directors, the Executive Director (ED) is responsible for the overall vision and leadership, the growth, development and strategic leadership, resource development and strategic partnerships, board engagement, staff team leadership, fiscal oversight and operations, public policy, and public engagement and awareness.

ESSENTIAL ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Vision & Leadership
● Provide UAN Board of Directors data-driven recommendations to shape, develop, and advance the network’s strategic work plan, goals, and objectives.
● Lead, coordinate, and oversee UAN’s initiatives and operations, including policy development, professional learning system, and grant program projects.
● Ensure programs and projects are implemented and managed effectively to maximize impact; ensure that there are effective processes for tracking and communicating outcomes.


Resource Development & Partner Engagement
● Build respect and profile for UAN; increase visibility, credibility, and impact.
● Strengthen and broaden the network statewide to include a broad base of school leaders and personnel, community leaders, businesses, and other partnerships.
● Work to connect the needs, concerns, and issues of schools, the afterschool field, and communities to develop new policy initiatives.
● Collaborate with network leads in other states.
● Manage all grant programs, including grant reporting, collaborating with partners, and planning and executing events.
● Enable the development of statewide policies to secure resources to sustain new and existing out-of-school time programs.
● Ensure programmatic excellence, rigorous program evaluation, and consistent quality of finance and administration, fundraising, communications, and systems and effectively communicate performance to the board, funders, and other stakeholders.

Board Engagement
● Work with the board and officers to ensure an effective governing body; keep board members actively involved; and cultivate and recruit new members.
● Keep the board fully informed on major priorities and decisions; build and sustain positive collaborative relationships with board members.

Staff Team Leadership
● Cultivate and implement a culture of learning, adapting, and leading organizational and systemic change.
● Create strong morale and spirit within the team; share wins and successes; foster open dialogue; define success in terms of the whole team.

Fiscal Oversight
● Increase UAN’s sustainability by cultivating relationships with public and private funders, writing grants, managing multiple funding streams, and developing fundraising strategies.
● Work with the board and staff to establish the budget, manage funds, receive successful external audits, track progress, and maintain sound financial practices.

Public Policy
● Oversee the organization of grassroots support for legislation and other policy initiatives.
● Build and maintain ongoing relationships with national, state, and local policymakers and cultivate afterschool champions.

SKILLS, EXPERIENCE, & KNOWLEDGE
● Experience working with boards and/or advisory committees.
● Familiarity with grassroots organizing and statewide policy.
● Strong meeting facilitation skills and team building skills.
● Strong people skills and an ability to relate to diverse groups of individuals.
● Understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion best practices.
● Effective public relations, verbal, public speaking, and writing skills
