UAN School-Age Credential | Candidate Details

HOW TO APPLY

STEP ONE: COMPLETE THE APPLICATION PACKET

Through the UAN School-Age Credential Application Packet, applicants will document and/or certify their completion of the following requirements: 

  • 480 hours of work experience in a licensed center-based setting with school-age youth within the past five years
  • 120 clock hours of training related to working with school-age youth 
    • NAA CoreComp InfographicAt least 10 hours of training must be completed in each of the 10 NAA Core Knowledge and Competencies. The remaining 20 hours of training may be completed in any competency.
    • For documentation, training logs are included in the Application Packet. Through UAN's partnership with the Utah Registry for Professional Development and Care About Childcare, UAN is able to view any training documentation uploaded to your portal. Remaining documentation must be emailed to  with the application.
  • Current first aid and adult/child CPR certification (may be included in the 120 hours of required training)
  • Current Ambassador level membership (free) or higher with the National Afterschool Association
  • Subscription to the Utah Afterschool Network newsletter
  • Completion of Level Two of the NAA Core Knowledge and Competencies Self-Assessment Tool, as included in the Application Packet, which includes the following components:
    • Ten Content Area Reflections
    • Self-Assessment Summary
    • Reflection
    • Professional Plan
    • Action Plan 

PICKLESSTEP TWO: RECEIVE AN OBSERVATION

After the Credential Review Committee has reviewed your Application Packet, an observation will be scheduled with an approved external evaluator. Candidates may prepare for the observation by reviewing and using the Practice Observation Tool. A $100 observation fee is required as compensation for the approved, external evaluator. Scholarships for this cost are available through UAN's partnership with the Department of Workforce Services, Office of Child Care and the Utah Registry for Professional Development.
